About Us

The Ystwyth Trail is a 34 km cycleway, bridleway pedestrian trail that will go from Aberystwyth to Tregaron. The trail is an Objective 1, three year project that has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Ceredigion County Coucil, Local Regeneration Fund with Support from other organisations such as Countryside council for Wales, Forestry Commission, Welsh Water and Welsh Development Agency.

The completed trail will be largely off road, utilisng the disused railway, Public Rights of way and quite green lanes. The trail is surprisingly a gentle route, taking you on a leisurely journey, through some spectacular countryside, which includes two National Nature Reserves, Pendinas near Aberystwyth and Cors Caron Bog near Tregaron and 10 acres of deciduous woodland near Trawscoed.

The route is designed to be safe and accessible to cyclists, walkers, horse riders and the disabled. The Ystwyth Trail will eventually be part of the Sustrans National Cycle Network Route 81 and Route 2 of the Ceredigion strategic cycle network of which it links into other routes through the county (See the Routes sections).

So what are you waiting for? Get out on your bike and explore Ceredigion!

In order to enhance your ride and experience we recommend you consider purchasing the Ystwyth trail leaflet which offers you a selection of the best traffic free sections available along the trail, which are ideal for families with young children and novices. Maps are also available for the Rheidol Route and the Cycle break routes which retail at £ 6.49 and will be available at all Tourist Information Centres, Menter groups and cycle retail shops.
