   THE GOOD CYCLE GUIDE

When cycling on shared use paths please:

  • Give way to pedestrians and horse riders, leaving them plenty of room.
  • Be prepared to slow down or stop if necessary.
  • Don't expect to cycle at high speeds.
  • Be careful at junctions, bends and entrances.
  • Remember that some people are hard of hearing or visually impaired - don't assume they can see/hear you.
  • Carry a bell and use it - don't surprise people and horses.

   When cycling on roads please:

  • Always use the Highway code.
  • Fit and use lights in poor visibility
  • Keep your bike roadworthy
  • Be seen - most accidents to cyclists happen at junctions
  • Wear a helmet
  • Take your litter home

   When cycling in country areas:

  • Follow the country code
  • Respect other land management activities such as farming or forestry
  • Keep erosion to a minimum if off road
  • Be self-sufficient - carry food, repair kit and weatherproofs
  • Try to cycle or use public transport to travel to and from the start and finish of your ride
  • Leave the countryside as you would like to find it!
